"He gave me the 'look' and hit the gas hard...I wheezed and hit oxygen debt." - From an RFAR team ride as I watched Matt Obregon smirking off over the horizon
under no apparent pressue from me. |
Current Status:
I'm a Weekend Warrior. I love to train with the guys who ride double centuries because
it gives me great lungs and legs for the many century rides I do each year that
represent my cycling passion.
However, having recently retired my original bike (a 2002 Specialized Allez
Comp with an Ultegra Triple - an aluminum bike) In favor of a my new
2008 Specialized
S-Works Tarmac SL with SRAM RED components and Mavic Ksyrium ES wheels (a full carbon
bike), I'm now spending a lot more time training with the Ride for a Reason
team
and thinking about mixing it up in some road races before the years out.
Retired might be an incorrect use of the term with respect to my Specialized Allez;
I like to characterize the incident as one in which my home builder failed to design
the garage door opening with a hieght commensurate with the following formula:
Garage door opening = (Height of SUV + Height of car top rack + Height of
Specialized Allez + a few extra inches)
Cycling Industry:
I am the founder and operator of Cycle Folsom which came about as the result of two
factors: I was new to the area and new to cycling. I had no riding buddies
and I didn't know where the good rides were.
It seemed like a worthy idea to me to invest in a Garmin GPS cycling computer and
begin capturing ride routes, elevation charts and other related information that
I could post on a web site.
I hoped it would provide other riders with "real" information about ride distances
and feet climbed along with my personal commentary as to non statiscal elements
of the ride such as traffic and road conditions, where water could be found
and that sort of thing.
Comeraderie in cycling is everpresent. I've made a great many friends and
ridden many miles within an incredibly diverse riding community.
When the opportunity to design the Century and Metric Century routes for the
City
of Folsom's Cyclebration (three days of cycling events) was offered to Cycle Folsom,
we jumped on it! Put the Gold Rush Century
or Metric Century on your ride calendar and make this
three day cycling event an annual pilgrimage!
I can't say enough of about the good people who give of their time, talents and
resources to be a part of the Cycle Folsom family; they plan rides, put together
family events, throw parties and rescue stranded riders.
Please accept my invitation to you to come out and join us for a ride and meet some
great people who can help you ease a few miles under your wheels, or push you
to, and beyond, your limit in preparation for your next event or race.
